There are so many types of shoes and it’s difficult to know everything.
After reading this article, you will have a clear idea of which shoes you should buy according to your outfit and occasion. Here is all you need to know about types of shoes.
When you look at your closet you see a lot of shoes but how many you would really like to wear. I’m guessing 2 to 3 pairs at most. These are the pairs that you need to keep and maybe give the rest away in charity. If you are frugal and don’t have those many pairs then you can use this information next time you go shopping. Cheers! Yay!
Or if you are a spender like me then this will help you in making an informed decision.
Most of us already have an idea of what to wear and when but some of us find it confusing. You could be unsure of which color to buy or maybe you are confused whether you should buy flats or heels. Then there are occasions that may suit one pair but not another. So be it oval or square-toe or sandals or loafers, we will touch base with most of them.
What shoes to wear and when?
Some rules must be observed for wearing heels and you will never go wrong. If you wear a dress that’s too bling then wear neutral heels or nudes. This way you will not overwhelm your outfit.
If you are wearing a dress that is plain and simple then add color by wearing a bright colored pair of heels. If you are wearing denim and a shirt and want to look classy add a pair of heels and you are done. This is a sure shot way of changing your appearance instantly.
If you cannot wear heels all the time but you are in an important meeting or a presentation and want to appear sharp and powerful then wear heels but carry an extra pair of footwear that is comfortable and you can wear afterwards.
There are multiple styles in heels which are appropriate for different outfits but that would be an article for another day. However, there are a few options to consider like if your feet are large, wear square or oval toed heels. Go for pointy or tapered shaped otherwise.
Wear kitten heels if you want to be dressy for a party as well as office wear. Strappy high heels or stilettos are more appropriate for events like parties.
If you can pull off a pencil skirt or slim pants then heels will be an added asset to your look and will make you look tall and slender.
If you are not that tall then avoid strap heels as they make your legs look short and create a barrier to the eye movement hence making you seem shorter.
For office wear, another variation is that of pumps. These are shoes with a closed toe and either low or high height heels. This will make you look more elegant with blacks, navy and brown colors.
There are two types of sneaker one when you work out and go running. The second type are low key sneakers.
If you work out or go running wear sneakers that support the feet and are made for running. They should have additional insoles and support. In this also, do not go for too flashy but try and match the shoes with the dress type that you wear. Whites, blues, greys are the safest bets. However, you can add a dash of color here and there but try to avoid anything too tacky.
If you are going to the grocery store or are running everyday errands, then low key sneakers are a much better option than your gym shoes. They can be paired well with casual clothes. Low key sneakers look great in whites or pastel colors. You can also find printed and glittery designs in the market if you like.
If you love wearing shorts and capris then go for flats. This will make you look more dressed up than sneakers. They pair well with knee length or short skirts. They are easy to slip on which makes them more wearable and comfy. Find a pair that matches your skirts and short and a pair of neutral color will go along with everything.
A word of caution here is that if you wear a skirt that’s long then wear something with elevated heels but not flats.
If going for a night out or a party, wear flats that are more decorated for the occasion. Casual flats are not meant for the office, wear formal flats to the office instead. Black and brown are the ideal color for office wear.
Flats are a very good fit for garden parties.
Wear low heeled sandals for any skirt length. They are versatile and feminine and can fit almost on any dress. If you want to wear a short black dress then go for sandals that are high heeled which are more of a classic choice.
If you are going out casually then you can wear flat walking sandals but don’t pair them with formal or party clothes. Wear them with a casual outfit like a t-shirt and capris or shorts.
Winters are the best time to wear boots. They will keep you warm and protected. They prevent airflow and are not meant for the summers.
You can wear them with boot cut denims or straight pants. They also go well with skinny jeans and a good jacket. Faux fur and colored laces add an interest to the boots.
Wide heeled boots are considered more practical as they have good traction on ice and snow.
If you are wearing a skirt or dress in the winters then go for knee high boots for that glamorous look.
Depending upon the dress-code in your place of work, loafers or oxfords must be paired with trousers. Oxfords are more formal of the two.
Loafers go well with skirts if they are low heeled. Wear oxfords with a little heel or flat when you wear a trouser to the office or a formal setting. The color choice depends on you and the dress you wear. I would again suggest neutral color for office as they go with most trousers and skirts.
Pin it. Love it.
