Nantucket is an island located about 30 miles south of Cape Cod, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The term ‘Nantucket’ means faraway or sandy.
A little more about the island.
Nantucket has a population of around 11,000+. Around the months of July and August the population gets around 50,000 due to visitors or vacationers. These are the summer months and most of the hotels and lodges are booked. So, plan your stay in advance or book before leaving.
Some restaurant and lodges do close down in winters so if you happen to plan your visit in winters then be informed.
Nantucket Island was deemed the “Best Island in the World” by National Geographic. The National Park Service designated this island a ‘National Historic Landmark District’ in 1966 for being the best example of ‘surviving architectural and environment of a 18th and early 19th century New England seaport town’.
There is a celebration of Daffodil Festival Weekend in the month of April. Check out this for exact dates. There are many other festival like Wine Festival around May 16th, book festival around June 15, film festival around June 20 and so on.
Trivia: The characters of ‘Moby Dick’- ‘Ahab’ and ‘Starbuck’ were supposed to be from Nantucket.

Temperature: The warmest months are in the summer and the temperature can be around 75 F to 90 F (one of the highest recorded on ACK).

The island has beautiful or should I say gorgeous natural beaches. You will enjoy the water and the beaches immensely.
If you are a bicycle enthusiast you will be happy as there are bicycle paths on the island.
If you are a jogger or like walking you will love this place. You can walk the stunning paths over the island’s moors, beaches, forests, and grasslands and experience the natural beauty.
The Nantucket Island also hosts ‘Antique Car Parade’. There are 100+ participants for vintage vehicles.
There are many festivals and activities for the children, your little ones will not be bored. Overall this is a must visit place and you will enjoy being on Nantucket Island.
The main Street of Nantucket Island is the centre of shopping. There are several boutiques in the town that are stocked with summer dresses, jewellery, handbags, and so on. You can get a good book or antiques for gifting or for yourself.
Food and drinks stall dot the island and so do hotels and inns.
There are three light houses on Nantucket Island. Visit the museums on the island. For your night life there is a nightclub ‘Rose and Crown’ or visit the ‘Cisco Brewers’.
Brant Point Light House
The lighthouse on Brant Point is the first sight that you see if you come via the ferry. It was erected in 1746, Brant Point Light House is America’s second oldest lighthouse. It’s 26 feet tall, not very tall, heh!
This island is truly a summer paradise and you will love this place. Some of the building are more than 100 years old and you will be transported back in time. That 1800’s feel and today’s services make this a must go to place.
