How To Make French Toast

  1. 2 Eggs
  2. 1/2 cup milk
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Nutmeg or cinnamon to taste
  5. Vanilla extract or any extract that you like for flavour
  6. 4 slices of bread (any bread-white, french, cinnamon)
  7. Maple syrup or cream or powdered sugar to sprinkle over the top
  8. Butter for frying

Total time:10 minutes

Portion size: Serves 2 (increase number of breads for more servings)

Take two eggs and a 1/2 cup of milk. Add the eggs and the milk into a container. Now, whip up the eggs and milk together. Add salt to taste.

Add cinnamon or nutmeg powder to this mix. If you do not like the nutmeg or cinnamon add an extract of vanilla or add both nutmeg and the flavour. Mix it well.

Now, pour this mix in a container so that you can dip your breads in this mix. It can be a shallow plate in which the mix would not spill.

Meanwhile put on the skillet or pan on the high heat. Add a dash of butter to the non-stick  to fry.

While this pan is heating up, dip both sides of the bread slices into the mix that we just made. After the breads are dipped, put them in the pan to fry.

The bread will start to sizzle on the pan. Lower the heat to medium low. Now fry the bread slices until both sides are golden brown. Take them out of the pan and put them in the serving plate.

Your French toast is ready. Add some maple syrup or cream as per your taste. Enjoy.

How To Cook Rice

  1. White Rice 1 small bowl
  2. Olive oil
  3. Water

Total time:10 minutes

Portion size: serves 3

Take a boiling pot or a cooker and put this on the slow flame gas stove.

Take the bowl of rice and wash it once, before putting the rice in the cooker. Add one bowl of water (use same size bowl as rice) to the rice. Now, put a spoon of olive oil or ghee (clarified butter) to this and stir with a spoon.

After this, cover the lid of the pot or cooker and let the rice cook until one whistle of the cooker. Immediately turn the stove or gas off.  Let the lid stay on the cooker and steam escape on its own. Do not open the lid immediately. After the steam has escaped from the cooker, open the lid and your rice is ready.

If you are using a pot to cook then you remove the lid after 6 to 7 minutes and check by dipping a fork inside the rice. If water drips from the fork or if the fork is too wet then it will take some more time.

Cooking tip: If cooking in open pan or pot without pressure of steam, let the water turn to steam completely before turning the gas or stove off and do not continuously lift the lid to see the cooking process. Rice takes around 7 minutes to cook if the water was at room temperature.

How To Make Tea (Chai)

Chai (Tea Indian way)

Chai / Tea is an excellent source of anti-oxidants and is diuretic.

  1. Tea leafs commonly known as tea
  2. Water
  3. Sugar (if you want)
  4. Milk
  5. Ginger

Total time:10 minutes.

Portion size: serves 2 cups (increase water and milk to increase serve size)

Take a cup of water put it in a bowl and put it on the heat.

Put some grated ginger in this water. Now, after the water comes to boil, let it boil for 1 minute.

Now put in the sugar if you like your tea or chai to be sweet. 1 table spoon (2 cubes) is enough.

Let it boil for another 1 minute.

Now put in the tea leaves or tea in the boiling water.

If you want the tea that most Indians drink then put a cup of fresh milk (preferred) or dairy whitener.

Let it come to boil and switch the heat off.

Sieve the liquid into cups or serving tea pot and it ready.

If you do not want milk and sugar then simply put 2 cups of water, grated ginger and tea and let the water boil for a minute or two and your chai is ready. Sieve it into the serving pot and serve with love.

Cooking tip: Covering the bowl of water with grated ginger in it while it boils enhances the taste of ginger. Sugar when added after the water boils and grated ginger gives a different taste than adding sugar straight in cups.
